Six out of ten Greek citizens have no access to Basic Health Services.

More than half of the Greek citizens, due to financial difficulties, cannot visit dentists or have precautionary health checks. In other words they have no access to Basic Health Services. Most of them visit the outpatients’ clinics of Public Hospitals which during the last few months are getting dramatically busy.
According to data brought to publicity by Giannis Kiriakopoulos, Professor of Finance for Health at the National School of Public Health, six out of ten Greek people have no access to Basic Health Services.
The private health expenses have been reduced during the last three years by 50%. The amount of Greek citizens who consider their health not good has been increased by 12% in 2012, as compared with 2006.

As Mr Kiriakopoulos stated, the crisis hits in order of rank the loan debtors, the unemployed as well as those ones that have seen large cuts to their incomes. The patients with chronic diseases, the poor and the pensioners are also heavily affected.
