Anti-establishment demonstrators take down the Greek flag from the roof of the Athens University in protest against the shutdown of Indymedia. The government spokesman says the «violent taking down of the Greek flag offends the national sentiment of the Greek people»

Police on Wednesday detained 63 people and arrested 6, when anti-establishment protesters took down the Greek flag and raised their banner on the roof of the Athens University in downtown Athens.

The protesters also covered the front of the building with a huge banner that read “raise your voice against state censorship”, protesting the shutdown of the Greek Indymedia by authorities.

Commenting on the incident, government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou strongly criticised the “violent taking down of the Greek flag”, which “offends the national sentiment” of the Greek people.

Kedikoglou also called on all political parties to condemn the incident, “even those parties that in the past have avoided condemning acts of this kind”.
